What a careful interior job actually looks like

Interior painting is judged on two things: the cut lines, and what the house looks like after the crew leaves. Everything else is table stakes. A straight, crisp line where the wall meets the ceiling and where the wall meets the trim is the whole difference between a room that looks professionally done and a room that looks painted, and it is largely a function of how long someone is willing to spend on a ladder with a brush.

The second part is just respect for the house. Floors fully covered, not spot-covered. Furniture centred and wrapped rather than shoved against a wall. Switch plates and vent covers removed and bagged with their own screws rather than painted around. Doors taken off and painted flat so they do not sag or run. These are small things and they are the entire reason people recommend a painter.

What we do inside

  • Walls and ceilings, including vaulted and two-storey spaces
  • Trim, baseboards, crown moulding, chair rail and wainscot
  • Doors, door frames, closets and built-in shelving
  • Popcorn ceiling removal, retexture and repaint
  • Drywall patching, nail-pop repair and texture matching
  • Accent walls, colour blocking and feature ceilings
  • Whole-home colour changes before a sale or after a purchase
  • Rental turnovers and move-out repaints on a fixed timeline

Living in the house while it is painted

Most of our interior work is in occupied homes, so we plan the job around you rather than asking you to move out. We work room by room, keep a clean path through the house, and use low-odour, low-VOC products throughout so a bedroom painted on Tuesday is sleepable on Tuesday night.

If you have pets, tell us at the estimate and we will agree on which doors stay shut and who opens them. If you work from home, we will sequence so your office is done first or last, whichever is less disruptive. None of this costs extra. It is just how the job should run.

Sheens, and where they belong

The single most common thing we fix on a repaint is the wrong sheen in the wrong room. Flat hides wall imperfection beautifully and cannot be cleaned, which makes it right for ceilings and adult bedrooms and wrong for a hallway with children in the house. Eggshell and satin clean up and take a scrub, which makes them right for hallways, kitchens, baths and family rooms. Semi-gloss belongs on trim, doors and cabinetry because it takes handling.

Higher sheen also telegraphs every bit of wall damage, so a satin on a badly patched wall will look worse than a flat on the same wall. We will tell you when a room needs more patching before it can carry the sheen you want.

How the job runs

  1. Walkthrough and estimate

Room by room, noting ceilings, trim, damage and sheen. You get a written quote naming the rooms, the surfaces and the coat count.

  2. Colour and sheen

Samples painted on your actual walls, viewed in your actual light. We advise on sheen per room, not one sheen for the house.

  3. Protect

Floors fully covered, furniture centred and wrapped, hardware and switch plates removed and bagged.

  4. Patch and prep

Fill, sand, texture-match and spot-prime. Stains and water marks get a stain-blocking primer so they do not bleed through.

  5. Paint

Ceilings first, then walls, then trim and doors. Two coats. Cut lines brushed by hand.

  6. Reset and walkthrough

Hardware back on, furniture back where it was, floors vacuumed, then we walk every room with you.

What it typically costs

Real ranges for Marion County and the surrounding counties, so you can sanity-check any quote you are given — ours included. Every job still gets a written, line-item estimate.

ScopeTypical rangeWhat moves the number
Average bedroom, walls only$350 – $550Two coats, minor patching included, standard ceiling height.
Average room, walls + ceiling + trim$550 – $950The most common scope. Vaulted ceilings add roughly 25%.
Whole home interior, 2,000 sq ft$5,000 – $10,000Walls, ceilings and trim throughout. Four to seven working days.
Popcorn ceiling removal$1.75 – $3.25 / sq ftIncludes scrape, skim, texture match and two coats. Pre-1980 ceilings need testing first.

Ranges are guidance for planning, not a quote. Condition of the existing surface moves the number more than size does.

Interior Painting: common questions

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house in Ocala?

Expect $2.50 to $5.00 per square foot of floor area for walls, ceilings and trim. A 2,000 square foot Marion County home typically comes in between $5,000 and $10,000 for a full interior, or roughly $550 to $950 per room if you are doing it piecemeal.

How long will my house smell like paint?

With the low-VOC products we use as standard, a few hours rather than a few days. A bedroom painted in the morning is normally comfortable to sleep in that night. We run ventilation while we work and we will tell you if any specific product — an oil-based trim enamel, for instance — needs longer.

Do you move furniture?

Yes. We centre and wrap everything in the room as part of the job and put it back where it was when we are done. We ask you to take care of anything genuinely irreplaceable — artwork, electronics, family pieces — yourself.

Do you repair drywall damage before painting?

Yes. Nail pops, dings, cracks and small holes are included. Larger repairs — water damage, big holes, texture matching across a whole wall — are quoted as a separate line so you can see what the repair costs versus the paint.

Can you remove popcorn ceilings?

Yes, including the skim coat, texture match and repaint. If the house was built before about 1980, the ceiling should be tested for asbestos before anyone scrapes it; we will tell you that at the estimate rather than after.

Do you do rental turnovers?

Yes, and on a fixed timeline. Tell us the date the next tenant moves in and we will work to it. Most two-bedroom turnovers are a two-day job.
