Painters in Citra, FL

Citra sits at the northern edge of Marion County between the thoroughbred farms and Orange Lake. Work here is overwhelmingly agricultural — barns, equipment buildings, run-in sheds, board fence and farmhouses — and RJL Painting quotes acreage properties as a single phased job rather than building by building.

What painting in Citra actually involves

Citra is old Florida agricultural country at the north end of Marion County, historically citrus and now a mix of horse farms, cattle, hay and rural homesteads. The buildings reflect that history: there is a lot of genuinely old timber here, and a lot of metal.

Old timber is the thing worth being careful about. A century-old barn that has never been coated is usually better served by cleaning and a penetrating oil or semi-transparent stain than by paint. Putting a film on weathered, checked timber that has been breathing for a hundred years traps moisture and starts a peeling cycle that is genuinely expensive to reverse. We will tell you when the right answer is to leave it as timber and simply protect it.

Metal is the other dominant substrate — equipment buildings, hay barns, pole barns and roofing. Metal that has started to corrode needs a rust-converting primer on the affected areas before a direct-to-metal topcoat goes on. Coating over active rust is the single most common reason a metal farm building repaint fails within two seasons, and it is a shortcut that is invisible on handover day.

Being at the top of the county, Citra is also within easy reach of the Alachua County line, so we often pair a Citra visit with work up toward Micanopy and the Gainesville side.

The housing stock here

Rural and agricultural — older timber barns, pole barns, metal equipment and hay buildings, run-in sheds and board fence, alongside frame farmhouses, manufactured homes and newer custom builds on acreage. A high proportion of genuinely old, previously uncoated timber.

Painting in Citra: common questions

Should I paint my old timber barn?

Often, no. A century-old barn that has never been coated is usually better cleaned and protected with a penetrating oil or semi-transparent stain. Putting a paint film on weathered, checked timber traps moisture and starts a peeling cycle that is expensive to reverse. We will tell you honestly when leaving it as timber is the better call.

Can you paint a metal farm building?

Yes, using a direct-to-metal acrylic over a rust-converting primer on any area that has already started corroding. Coating over active rust without converting it is why most metal building repaints fail inside two seasons — and you cannot see the shortcut on the day the job finishes.

Do you go as far north as Micanopy?

Yes. We regularly pair Citra work with jobs up toward Micanopy and the Alachua County side.

Can you handle a whole farm rather than one building?

That is how we prefer to work on acreage. One quote covering the house, the barns, the sheds and the fence line, phased over several visits with the worst-failing items first.
